About the Film

Stand features Norm Hann’s 350km standup paddleboard (SUP) expedition through the mystical Pacific Coast archipelago of Haida Gwaii, with a class of Heiltsuk students who build their own SUP from locally sourced red cedar as they “stand up” to preserve this truly wild corner of the globe. These student activists then paddle their way through some of the most dangerous navigable waters in the world – the narrow inlets of the Great Bear Rainforest – to showcase the stunning coastlines that would be in jeopardy should an oil-tanker carrying Enbridge’s proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline bitumen ever lose it’s load. Stand inspires integrity in a way that will have you fishing in your basement for that old flourescent wetsuit.
